Sustainable Motivation
What tends to make a player perform well at times and poorly at other times often relates to their motivation. While form and self-confidence are also important factors, a player's type of motivation can play a crucial role in their performance throughout their career. Coaches should select players who genuinely want to play and contribute to the team. When players are intrinsically motivated, it is more likely that the team will achieve good results and be less susceptible to turning against the coach or teammates.
Accessible yet Strict
What sets managers like Sir Alex Ferguson apart is the fact that he could elicit responses from all his players while still being accessible. What makes Sir Alex Ferguson one of the best managers in the history of football is his ability to motivate his players while simultaneously taking care of their needs outside of football. As important as it is for a coach to care about the team's morale, it is also incredibly important for the coach to be strict when necessary. Furthermore, he was able to motivate players in various ways, leading to higher team performance.
Arsene Wenger is undoubtedly one of the greatest managers in the history of the Premier League. However, in recent times, his trust in the players was not rewarded with efficient performances, as he lacked various methods to motivate his players. In this case, the manager earned a lot of respect from his players, but when they played poorly, he couldn't motivate them to perform at a higher level. Ruthlessness and accessibility go hand in hand, and a manager must achieve the ideal balance between both.
Coach vs Manager
A coach focuses more on player development, while a manager is more focused on results alone. Pep Guardiola, by definition, is a manager, but his approach resembles that of a coach. In addition to focusing on the team's success, he places a significant emphasis on the playing style and the development of players under his guidance. He dedicates a lot of time to ensuring that the players know where to go and what to do, which differs from the approach of a traditional manager.
Through coaching, players are more inclined to play at a higher level than before, and this approach emphasizes quality over quantity. It's not just about doing it, but also about how you do it.
Teaching Leadership with Jürgen Klopp
I have a lot more information than I give to the players, not because I want to keep that, just because they have to play a football game, and football is a game, and you have to play it with freedom - Jürgen Klopp
Watch in this video how Jürgen Klopp, one of the world's best coaches, shares his views on leading players and staff. The video is only 5 minutes and 30 seconds long and provides valuable information.
💥Highlight of the week so far
The highlight of the past week, for me personally, was definitely FC Saarbrücken's victory over the mighty FC Bayern Munich. Not because I have anything against FC Bayern Munich, but due to the growing gap between larger and smaller clubs in recent years. The financial disparities are simply too significant, and it seems challenging to counteract them. Therefore, for every neutral football fan, it's a refreshing change and highlights the potential within the German cup competition. In a game, anything is possible when you believe in it, give your all, and, of course, have that necessary bit of luck on your side.
